EDB or Exchange Database is exchange data file which was designed on single client server architecture. It uses Microsoft extensible storage engine in order to access data. These files includes entire data components such as email, message, folders and attachment. It is the main repository of Exchange Server Mailbox. In the EDB file each and every data is well maintained when the communication is made using the Exchange Server.
The SMTP, IMAP and the HTTPS messages of Exchange Server is stored by EDB file in B-tree structure format. The main motive behind using the B-tree structure is to access the data from EDB file in quick time.
EDB file Types
Previously, There are multiple edb file types were created by the exchange server in version 2000 & 2003 & 2010. But Then onwards the Exchange Server created only single EDB file with STM file(store attachments)
Priv1.edb:- It stores only the private data of the user
Pub1.edb:- The data which are common among the users are stored in Public folder
